EMAIL SWIPE 1: Which Would You Chose?

I've always adored dining out.

Yet ever since I switched to eating Real Food and prioritizing ancestral food ways, I've felt more and more challenged by my experiences in restaurants.

In the example above, Kristen would actually choose the CAFO-raised grilled chicken made with olive oil (or no meat at all) over the pasture-raised chicken that was friend in canola oil.

Here's why.

She believes (as I do) that the single greatest thing you can do for your health is to switch to nourishing, wholesome, traditional fats.
 
It's hard to put into practice, I know!

I used to just dismiss caring about it altogether when dining out. I'd accepted that I was never going to get a good meal made with good fats if I wasn't eating in my own home.

Kristen felt the same way. But then she noticed she was slowly putting on weight, 5 to 10 pounds per year. So she started being more strict with how she prioritized good fats -- even when dining out.
 
Want to guess what happened?

The weight started melting off.

Yes, the weight-loss is a convergence of choices. It's not all about how she prioritized my food choices when eating out.

But she's convinced it's a significant factor, and here's why. Not too long ago, she had a week where she "cheated." She splurged. She stopped following my rules when dining out.

Want to guess how many pounds she lost last week?

None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

She actually gained two pounds.

EMAIL SWIPE 2: How to Prioritize Your Food Choices When Dining Out

I know many of you will be eating out quite a bit during the holidays, and that many more of you eat out simply because you travel so much.

The rest of you are like me. You like to eat out because it's easy, fun, tasty, and generally awesome to have other, more skilled people cook for you (and clean up after you!).
 
Whatever your reason, you'll want to keep this chart handy.

This chart, created by Kristen Michaelis and explained in detail in The Renegade Guide to Dining Out {{INSERT AFF LINK}} distills, as simply as I know how to, Kristen's system for making the healthiest possible choices when eating out.

In the book, she spends pages teaching you why she's chosen these priorities, getting into nitty gritty details about how these choices affect your health, the planet's health, etc.

(She also get into how, exactly, you can ask your servers about their sourcing & ingredients, and she even provide you with Cheat Sheets for some of the best options at some of the nation's most popular restaurant chains, but that's beside the point!)

Following these priorities in this exact way helped her lose more than 15 pounds over the past two months!

As you can no doubt tell, the chart goes in order of priority from "Most Important" at the top to "Least Important" at the bottom, and you want to pick the choices on the left before you'd pick an option on the right.

PLEASE NOTE: This chart is radically simplified, and based on what will have the most immediate impact on your health! If you want to understand why Kristen's prioritized it this way, you'll need to read her book {{INSERT AFF LINK}}.
 
Let's put the chart to use with an example!

If you're given a choice between Duck Fat Fries made with non-organic potatoes and Organic French Fries cooked in canola oil, which should you choose?

Using the above chart, you'd decide that the "Most Important" priority is the cooking fat, which means you'd opt for the Duck Fat Fries even though they were made with non-organic potatoes.

Make sense?

Let's do another one, just to make sure you've got the hang of it!

If you're given a choice between Wild Alaskan Salmon and an Organic Chicken Breast from a local rancher, which should you choose?

Using the above chart, you'd decide that the "Most Important" priority is that the animal food is Pasture Raised and/or Wild, so you'd opt for the Wild Alaskan Salmon even though the chicken was from a local farm.

But what if NONE of the "good" choices are options?

That's okay! She als has an entire chapter of the book dedicated to giving you rules to use when dining out in places where your choices are limited.
